More Than Just An Athlete – A Transfer Story

Last fall, Regan LoConte joined the CCU Cougars women’s basketball team from Quincy University. Currently, she is a senior who is pursuing a degree in Biology. Thankfully all her credits transferred in but in a way she had to restart and become a “freshman” again. The transition was a bit difficult but CCU has been a positive experience.

Quincy is a private catholic university located in Quincy, Illinois. Being a native of Mokena, Illinois, she was only 4 hours away from home. The short distance made it possible for LoConte to visit home as often as she wanted. Now that she is at Colorado Christian University, she is 14 hours away from home. The distance has been tough because she loves her family however, she does not regret choosing CCU.

Since coming to CCU, LoConte’s faith has grown tremendously. At Quincy, unfortunately there was not much faith integration in the classroom or her sport. Coming here caused her to become surprised as there was a shift in the importance of our faith. Although LoConte grew up in a Christian household, she believes that it is so important for her to take advantage of this opportunity.

Her favorite class has been Intro to Theology. Her professor, Dr. John Wind is really funny which makes her class enjoyable. The Bible Doctrine has been an influential book that has gone in depth and explained the Bible in ways she could not have imagined.

After graduating from CCU, LoConte hopes to go into medical sales. Previously, she wanted to become an eye surgeon. But, medical school made her rethink that career. Her mom was in the medical sales industry which is helpful to know someone who has had experience. She also does not have to give up on the eye industry because she can sell eye care materials as a medical sales representative.

She also hopes to open her own ice cream shop on the side. When she was 16, her first job was at an ice cream shop, called Creamery where she was the manager. She absolutely loved making ice cream for the customers. Interacting with customers and seeing them happy as they consumed their ice cream brought LoConte so much joy. She even works at Magill’s here in Colorado because she loves the job. She hopes that her ice cream shop will be cute and cool because who doesn’t love ice cream?

Thanks Regan for sharing your story!
