More than Just An Athlete – A Story of Experience
Mary Beth is a Health Science major and also a golfer at CCU. After college she hopes to go to attend a Physician Assistant graduate program and serve people in the medical field.
She started golfing at a young age because her dad introduced her to the sport. She loves the connection that golfing gives her and her dad. She knew she loved the sport and wanted to continue playing; she used to sneak into her dad’s truck when he was heading off to the driving range so she could practice. Starting at such a young age has given her the experience she needed for the college level. Being able to bring that experience with her into competitions at CCU has allowed her to let go of stress and pressure to enjoy the sport. She has experienced ups and downs since she has been playing so long, but knowing how to combat those lows and excel at the highs allows her to let go of expectations and play.
This mindset serves her not only on the course but in everyday college life. Mary Beth is always finding something new and fun to do with her friends. While she has a difficult course load, the times she’s not studying and not on the course, Mary Beth is finding good music and fun places in Denver or hiking and enjoying the scenery in the mountains. She likes to keep busy and hang out with friends to destress. She says the location of CCU is perfect because it is close to both the city and mountains, so she can always find an adventure.
